Ahchoo! It’s springtime in Texas, replete with billowing green pollen clouds and dandelions galore! Does the mere thought ensue a sneeze? That could be God’s design to eliminate dust from your nose. What a marvelous method! Or, if chronic, allergies might be worth approaching from an entirely new point of view!
Let’s talk allergies from two perspectives: GUTS and GOD!
Often in healthcare, the focus is reductionist. Patients and healthcare providers alike, are so keenly focused on the minutia of symptoms that the foundational, synergistic aspects of health are overlooked.
We are mere humans who are created in the triune image of God.
- We are a spirit (our spirit is the eternal portion of us).
- We have a soul (our soul is the emotional, thinking part).
- We live in a body (our body is our mobile home, so to speak, that houses our spirit).
All three aspects of our nature must be addressed if we want to prosper and be in health! And so in focusing on health, I prefer an “all-inclusive” approach! Hence, “God, Guts and Allergies!”
“Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest proper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” 3 John 2 KJV
GUTS:
In nutrition school, I was taught that around 70% or more of our immune system resides in our gut. By gut, I refer to the entirety of our human digestive tract – from our mouth all the way out to Charmin land. If gastrointestinal function is compromised, at it can be in myriad ways – think Heartburn, Gallstones, IBS, IBD, Crohn’s, Indigestion, Food Sensitivities, Bloat, Colitis – it can indicate a compromised immune system. I was also told we need robust immunity and an uncompromised gut because these are far less likely to develop allergies – seasonal, environmental, or food!
GOD:
The Bible has a whole lot to say about how to care for our physical bodies! Did you know that Solomon, deemed the wisest of the wise, shared insight about health? He taught that a merry heart does good like a cure but a broken spirit dries the bones. Healthy hearts and healthy bodies are inextricably linked!
The Bible also informs us that ALL the issues of life flow from the healthiness – or unhealthiness – of our hearts! And so, the heart – our spirit, our thoughts, who we are at our core – are important!
“A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.” Proverbs 17:22 KJV
“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” Proverbs 4:23 KJV
This is where it gets good, y’all!
I’m showing you how the Bible confirms science – and science confirms the Bible – because the Author of the Bible created science!
Its common knowledge that the medical community readily admits laughter, positivity and smiles boost overall health. Yet, as Proverbs 17:22 stated, a broken spirit dries the bones. Could that imply that discouragements, deep disappointments, lack of nurture or stress affect our bones? Or further, possibly contribute to allergies? I believe so!
Let’s focus on that in this tiny biology lesson.
What resides inside our bones?
Marrow!
What comprises marrow?
All kinds of immune cells! B, T, Natural Killer, White, red…loads of amazing cells God designed to protect us from diseases and allergies! Therefore, we can surmise that having a broken and wounded heart – or a fearful, stressed out and anxious heart – likely negatively affects our immune system because it negatively affects our bone marrow.
I’ve observed a broken heart occurs with deep discouragement and disappointment, with rejection, sicknesses, infertility, with losing a job, a baby, a marriage or when someone who was supposed to love us, nurture us and protect us did not do those things. This can occur directly in one’s life or in one’s family tree.
Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” John 14:27 KJV
Do you want to have a happy, functional immune system and a happy, functional heart?
Of course, you do!
Due to my own physical struggles, a natural inclination to study the inextricable link between Biblical health concepts and their clinical implications developed. For me, overcoming fear, stress and anxiety is not a one-and-done occurrence. It might be for some, however, that just hasn’t been my experience. But that process of walkout paved a way for passion and purpose to kick in! Teaching others about God’s design for our wellbeing is my joy!
Having recognized spiritual roots to disease at play in my own life – and in the ongoing process of walking out of them – my mission is now to teach and support others as they choose the same! If you’re curious, contact me though my website, Well Made Wellness!
Combine wise, practical, physical choices with examining your heart according to Scripture and allergies won’t stand much of a chance!
Remember, let us not grow so focused on the nitty-gritty that we overlook the whole of Scripture to bring health and life to our bodies!
“Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily!” Isaiah 58:8a KJV
Do you have allergies?
Do you feel un-nurtured, un-loved or stressed?
Could it be those sensitive areas of your heart are the same ones the Father wants to restore Biblically and spiritually…allowing your health to spring forth?
