Where I Shop for Groceries and Kitchen Necessities
In addition to my local farms and grocery stores, I shop online quite a bit. To simplify things for you, I’m sharing my favorite resources* for quality options to stock your fridge and pantry with real, whole and traditionally nourishing foods.
(I only share retailers that I know and trust, purchase from and whose products I actually use. Clicking on these links may help me earn a small commission, thank you!)
MORE TO BE ADDED!
Organs are my multi vitamins! For most of human history, we effortlessly consumed the whole animal – nose to tail. These organs and things are what we knew we needed for stamina, strength and happiness. Traditional peoples and the ancestrally wise believed eating the organs from a healthy animal would strengthen and support the health of the corresponding organ of the individual.
Skin is the largest organ in the body and it absorbs whatever is put on it. That’s why I only use skin care products that seem natural enough to eat. Why would I put it on my skin if I can’t put it in my mouth? Texas Tallow is made by a fellow GAPS Practitioner using nature’s original skincare cream: beef tallow! Try it, I know you’ll fall in love with this creamy, not sticky, wellness friend for your skin! (I’m currently liking the peppermint variety).
Berkey has been a staple in my home for over eight years and I’ve never regretted the investment! In fact, I upgraded from a “Big” to a “Royal” and installed Berkey shower filters in my bathrooms! Hello, softer hair and no showering in chlorine. Click to the site to read all about Berkey and the comprehensive list of awful impurities it removes from water. With all the bone broth and kombucha making I do, it made sense to use the cleanest water!

Twenty-six years! That’s an estimate for how much of our lives we spend sleeping! Mattresses can provide a veritable smorgasbord of toxic chemicals: VOCs, flame retardants, toluene and many more. Yuck! Because I’ll spend two thirds of my life on my mattress, I want it to be pure and clean. Enter Essentia. Give them a peek, you may find just what you need for the whole family!
Serving nourishing meals can be a daily challenge – especially for picky eaters! We all know more veggies is a good idea…but how? Enter Dr. Cowan’s organic, nutrient-dense vegetable powders to make healthy eating fast, easy and delicious! I had the chance to chat with the Dr. Cowan’s Garden team at Wise Traditions 2019 and loved their friendliness and insights into holistic health.
In fact, Dr. Cowan is a founding board member of the Weston A. Price Foundation and has authored numerous books on integrative health. My favorite book of his is available on Amazon: “Vaccines, Autoimmunity and the Changing Nature of Childhood Illness.”
Whole body, completely natural cream for the hands, feet, lips and face. Tallow is how people cared for their skin before cosmetic chemicals entered the scene. Paleo and ancestral, tallow is a prized animal fat usually rendered from cows. It supports skin that is supple and feels good. The Vanilla Bean is my absolute favorite! *If you are sensitive to essential oils in your lotion and skin creams, I’d opt for the Texas Tallow brand (listed above).
